       I'm seeing the fact of there being an autistic community being used to silence self diagnosed autistic people.I see people saying "being self diagnosed is fine as long as you say that you THINK you're autistic, and don't claim to BE autistic, otherwise you're *speaking for the autistic community*" Which is absurd. Each person speaks for their own experience of being autistic. Self diagnosis is valid. That does not mean "we'll hold our noses till you get officially diagnosed". That means self diagnosed autistic people are #actuallyautistic

       @Zumbador And these people forget again how privileged they are because not everyone can access and/or afford an official diagnosis! #ActuallyAutistic

       @adelinej @Zumbador or not being dismissed because of gender, race, age or by outdated professionals (like the amount of times that I've heard people being denied diagnosis because they look into the eyes, have a partner or are in college/have a job).

       @pitbuster @adelinej @Zumbador My son "failed" his ASD test because he said "please" or "thank you" during the interview. As per the psychiatrist "autistic people don't understand social codes and would never say please like that"...This not only dismissed his struggle and efforts to blend in, it is also a punch in the face for my wife and I, who put up so much work to actually make this happen.We've been denied further help because we raised him well...
