@verita84 Oh, fucking fuck's fuckin'...Desktop *computer*.You're asking about DEs. I have not run a DE since Windows 98, and even then, it was just because I couldn't get LiteStep to work right on 98.Yeah, I don't think anyone saves stuff to the thing a UI calls a desktop any more but I have no opinion on that.

@p @verita84 Before I got smart about computers I did, on Windows 10. Then an update came along which deletes any folders on the desktop, learned my lesson. Now on *nix systems I like to use $HOME and it's neat organized folders, like Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, etc.

@xue @netdoll @verita84 > no reason for it not to bePlenty. There's more to storage than capacity. SD cards are slow and unreliable and easy to lose, I don't know of any battery-backed RAID controllers that use microSD instead of SATA/SAS, and I have in my life never spilled a drink on a disk array because those are inside machines.Maybe when ClockworkPi makes the DevServer, it'll work, but the DevTerm is mostly useful as a portable terminal.

@dcc @netdoll @verita84 @xue I think it'd be cool, but I also think garbage computing is cool, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. RAID-1/RAID-10/RAID-6 would be better, though, because of the high failure rate. I mean, the main thing about those devices is they are cheap and ~disposable, so redundancy is nice to have.

@dcc @netdoll @verita84 @xue I mean, without redundancy you just have a thing that, if any of them fails, the whole thing does, and it gets way more likely the more you have. But say 8 slots, 50% redundancy, right? Not that you'd have to fill all eight. Then little LED indicators so you can pop out the failed ones and replace them while the system was still running. microSD RAID would be most hilarious RAID to exist.

@dcc @netdoll @verita84 @xue Yeah but there is not much point in RAID-0 because instead of a RAID-0 plus two microSDs, you'd just get...a bigger microSD. And disk failure is suck, and it goes up by leaps if you are tacking more devices on. You're basically compounding the potential failure rate. Say you have to roll a die, if it comes up 1, the disk crashes. Say you have to roll two and if *either* comes up 1, the disk crashes. So then you roll 3, you're now at 1-((5^3)/(6^3))≈42% chance that at least one of them is a 1, at 4 it's 52%, etc.
