       @PvtProperty @lain The hypothetical halflife of a proton is longer than the universe has existed by a ridiculous exponential amount. Theoretically if it happens we could notice it with enough monitoring due to numerous protons existing, but at some point Occam's Razor just says the theory behind it happening is wrong.

       Pretty much what real science is. Propose hypothesis (proton decay can happen). Devise experiment and test (kamiokande). A failure is as important as a success. Too bad that most failed experiments are never reported.
