G5 towers are fuggin' cheap, tooMy 2011 MacBook Pro/GarageBand combo so far hasn't let me down, but even with 2.7ghz i7 and 16g RAM I can go full Spector and make it groan under the strain.I figure full sized components, better cooling etc

Diversity hires can’t code. I’ve seen people come into my current job through a contractor and they’re all diversity hires (mostly women and some black/ brown dudes).idk about the dudes but you need at least 2 women to match the skill of one man. They’re just that shit and get by because they’re not as socially awkward. I saw a woman on LinkedIn get hired at nvidia today and my immediate thoughts were “probably some bullshit job” and guess what? She’s working as a UX specialist. This post showed up because she went to the same university as me yet I can’t see what course she’s studying and it just says a year. Any time you see a diversity hire just have a look at what they’re actually doing.

@duke @bronze some of it is terrible coding, some is overhead for encrypting traffic at acceptable levels. Trying to do TLS 1.3 on even an old P4 kinda sucks.I agree though, except my work computer, my machines are all 7+ years old and adequate for most of my needs. I'm looking forward to rediscovering some of my favorite games on the new desktop I'm playing with.

@duke @rher @Tactical @bronze I recently picked up Uncharted 1-3 for $10. Amazing games, great storytelling, still nice to look at, and made fair use of the PS3/PS4 hardware. I'm not sure you could have the same game on a PS2, and definitely not on anything earlier.Look at later games for the same hardware, though. As soon as they stopped limiting themselves to what would fit on a single disc, that's when the sizes blew up.

In halos case it was mismanaged and they were using their own in house engine which contractors had to learn and then leave after a few months.Imagine having to restart constantly. They even had an issue with the UI that stopped them from adding a playlist button, how that happens idfk but they fumbled the bag.That’s the first and last halo game I’ve played.
