@Onmyom I disagree with your post "Just say no!".I get the reasoning and I see how that can be applied to many applications or even entire OSes + other pieces of technology. I've been using iA Writer since v1.0 and I don't see the author's complaints in the specific case.Besides the syntax suggestions feature, which I don't use and is easy to disable in the preferences, the only other change has been the introduction of wikilinks — a godsend for people like me.Also: https://manuelmoreale.com/great-software-is-timeless

@m2m @Onmyom I just read the post on how much they appreciate IA Writer and buying their first Mac. I didn’t see any complaints. Perhaps the wrong blog post is linked?

@birch I see. I linked a rebuke of the post I was referring to, so you read my "counterpoint" :)Om's post is here: https://om.co/2023/02/14/just-say-no/There's a quote with a cite link that goes to a paywalled post, so I didn't read the original in full. @Onmyom

@m2m @Onmyom That explains my confusion; thanks! I agree with both perspectives; IA Writer has done a great job at sticking to its niche and doing it well. On the other hand, it’s not a bad reminder to keep it that way.I wish it had git integration because I don’t use Dropbox. When I’ve searched for working around this, people mention another application to sync files. I haven’t tried that approach but I do appreciate that “do one thing and do it well” philosophy from Unix.

@birch I don't use neither Dropbox nor iCloud, so I wish they could implement another form of syncronization too. Though, I really don't care much since I started using Syncthing. However, iA Writer's idiotic move on Android to disallow edits directly in the filesystem prevents me from using the sync'd files properly. Hence why on Android (and only there) I've been using Obsidian. It's weird how I can't stand Obsidian on desktop but works well on my Android phone. We have choices!@Onmyom

@m2m How are you using Obsidian and how do you like it? It’s a bit funky to use on iOS but works great on Mac. I end up using 1Writer on iOS to edit Obsidian stuff. Personal preference I suppose but it’s easier to use on a small screen.

@ray I don't really like it. I only use it on Android because my editor of choice, iA Writer, decided to disallow direct editing in the filesystem. I only use Obsidian on Android to check and edit my TODO file, which is synced from the Mac using Syncthing.

@lkhrs How do you like Arc so far? I recently downloaded it and haven't had a chance to put it through paces. I haven't even figured how to remove those default Google and Twitter buttons in the left sidebar. Curious why they'd put those there.
