Back when Lanyd existed I could use it to check for interesting tech-geek conferences and barcamps coming up.Where does one go now though?

@alisonw looks like Eventbrite ate most of that market.

@EdentYes, they seem to be well into the making-a-booking phase, but sfaict less/not in to the just-noting-this part.Makes me wonder whether some sort of agglomeration tool is still needed / would be useful.

@Edent@simon - Your Lanyd concept is sorely missed, by me at any rate. I've been wondering whether it, or a simplified version (announce-only no attendee listing), might be helpful to enough people to recreate. Would you mind if I had a go?

@alisonw @Edent It would be wonderful if someone could take on that problem, I sorely miss it too

@simonIs the "Lanyd" name a trademark? I was wondering whether it would be ok to reregister the domain (but as lanyd.uk) but wouldn't want to tread on anyone's toes or whatever. I just always thought the name was neat. (If so obv I'll think up something else instead.)

@alisonw Yeah the brand is still owned by Eventbrite, so I'd avoid that and find some other name to use

@daaain @simonIt was. I can't spell, it seems.I've realised that the issue isn't a technical one - the software is an afternoon diddle - but one of finding the events to be listed, which is what got me wondering about it in the first place!Still pondering though...

@alisonw @daaain Lanyrd worked as a Wikipedia-style shared space, where anyone could add and edit an eventWe managed not to get inundated by spammers and vandals for the first three years - sadly they started to show up after we had been acquired and were working on other things

@alisonw @daaain if I was building it again I'd put a whole lot of extra effort into moderation tools and abuse prevention

@simon @alisonw@hachyderm.io @daaainAt least initially I was thinking of it solely as listings so very controlled. At one time I was trying to clean up the Mozilla wiki which had thousands of pages of spam and abuse. It's sad that the web of the early-mid 90s lost its innocence.
