The video game and other BBS forums I grew up in were full of nice people, meaningful conversation, harmless fun, and devoid of obnoxious algorithms, ads, and analytics that turn you into a product... I think they were a big net positive on my development.Maybe the limitation should apply only to services hosted by for-profit companies? Or services that serve ads? There would have to be some solid criteria.

The internet is just one big network - basically the same thing you have in your own house but on a massive scale. There are other stipulations too but for the most part it's the same thing. Your question, however, relies on everybody acting in good faith. For example, there's nothing stopping someone who is not a child from getting on the "kidernet" to LARP as a child for nefarious purposes. Honestly it all boils down to parenting and societal norms. If we have the same status quo as the 1950s, but with the internet, I don't think you'd see too much "bad" stuff. That, however, would also require sending all the jews back to the home country.
