A few days ago, it came to my attention that one of the people on our instance appeared to be having a breakdown. We had to walk the line between making a situation (much) worse and trying to help a fellow human. I understand that people on the fediverse may at times loose the sense that there are (usually) real people behind the keyboard of accounts and that all decisions should be simple and straightforward. That isn’t the case. Now that that situation is defused a bit, I took a look at the complaints and posts by the individual and his behavior and concluded that he doesn’t fit here and have suspended him. To those that want to block us or leave because of my decisions, ✌️I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you may not like everything I do, but I try hard to be caring and compassionate to other people in all interactions. ❤️

@jerry You said you didn't know what you could do to help. Not giving into the mob would definitely qualify. I sincerely hope you change your mind before my data's purged. Today I learned to keep it bottled up. Because I'll only get punished for reaching out. Thanks for the lesson. I'll remember it the rest of my life.

@r000t @jerry you didn’t really give much of a choice - people have been suspended for less. We tried the compassion route. I hope you can find some help and support and things can improve for you. I also hope you can take the right lessons from this, in time.

@cirriustech @jerry The behavior stopped after the initial restriction. No further infractions happened after that point. The only thing that changed, was that pressure was applied. The moderation team fell for a pressure campaign, and now that you've told them it works, they'll almost certainly do it to someone else. I was right the whole time; Nobody actually cared. The smart move would have been to say nothing about it. That's the lesson here today.

@r000t @jerry I’m sorry you feel that way. I personally seen someone struggling and wanted to try to help - especially having lost people I care about through their mental health struggles. And also having had more than my own share of them. Otherwise your initial posts would have been a slam dunk suspension in my view. You got the benefit of the doubt and several olive branches extended.

You were not banned from the fediverse, you were banned from one instance.
