       @LoriQuaid The radios have encryption but are also able to be used without so you can talk with the tower and non military aircraft.The encryption keys are classified and can be a pain in the ass to distribute and use. If there are aircraft from multiple bases - that just adds to the problem.That they didn't turn on encryption means it wasn't important (to the crew doing the work).

       @LoriQuaid I was thinking the same about the balloon shooting airplane. Even small town Police scramble their signal.
