       Looks like a new Fediverse search tool has launched. It’s called @aspublic.You can find a demo of it here:https://stealthward.xyz/How long this will last, I don’t know. Whenever someone tries to roll out Fediverse search, some people get upset. But we’ll see.

       @atomicpoet @aspublic Quickly tried 3 searches and compared the results with the same query as a hashtag in the native “Explore” (Opeth, Andor, Climate). The hashtag searches were better, though these are probably biased that way.  Which ever way search goes, a better interface for and culture hash-tagging would probably be a good thing.

       @maegul @aspublic Hashtags have big limitations, and there’s no way you’re going to re-train billions of people on how to do social search. Regardless, outside Mastodon, search on services (Friendica, Pleroma, etc.) are not so hashtag dependent. It’s assumed that if you set your posts to public, they are public.Just because Mastodon gives you a certain experience doesn’t mean it’s universal across the Fediverse.

       @atomicpoet @maegul @aspublic they keep making those external search tools instead of switching to something like Akkoma that has built-in elasticsearch. Not sure why they insist on sticking with Mastodon if it bothers them so much.I suspect they don't realize there's more than Mastodon on the network.
