@publius I agree. Mostly I just use 1st. Class stamps. Maybe we should be happy they haven’t eliminated them altogether.

@gemlog In 2009 it was 28¢.That's an increase of 71% in 14 years, for an implied annual consumer-price inflation rate of 3·85%, far higher than the authorities will admit to over that period.

@gemlog A first-class parcel of 13 ounces has gone from $3·26 to a variable rate, depending on distance (which is contrary to the spirit of first-class mail), of $7·50―8·25.Taking the lower figure, that's an increase of 130%, an annual price escalation of 5·6%.The price of delivering the mail hasn't risen to any such degree. Congress has deliberately burdened the Postal Service to make the economics of its operations look worse and worse.

@gemlog The really offensive thing to me is that, under the US Constitution, postal service is a core responsibility of the Federal government (which will surprise nobody familiar with our War of Independence). And yet none of these so-called "originalists" could care less about it.
