@josh @Jim I attended a talk on "coded law" or some other bullshit term presented by bigshot from the legal society where I live about four years ago. The speaker had written a "paper" about how it would work. The paper was trash and had not a single technical detail in it.Their main point was they think it's possible to codify laws in the same way that software is written and so when all the facts of a case are "entered" somehow a perfectly fair sentence would spit out the other end of the system, free of any kind of prejudice. He talked a lot about muh racism in sentencing.I'd been on a large, multi-year, project a while before that to research and deliver a proof of concept for a way for users of a system to write software requirements in plain English so that software could be generated to implement all those requirements. The outcome was that it's not possible, it cost a lot of money and the people funding it were very well heeled.I brought this up and explained a few of the major things holding the idea back but everything was just handwaved away and I was told "nah, it'll work, we've thought about it a lot". Supreme arrogance that, if applied will result in an inordinate amount of injustice. Today, that probably means violent blacks will go free and Whites will be given very harsh sentences.
