@kairyssdal because we blew them to smithereens and the smithereens are too small to identify

@kairyssdal I think that “definitively” is doing a lot of work there.

@kairyssdal I think the clean answer is “we don’t want to say it’s China so they have to fess up and look bad”.

@kairyssdal Oh, I can understand this. I think the closer to 'home project' things get, the harder they might be to rule-out as far as purpose.Like, if it doesn't have Chinese or Russian parts and markings and it's just a mylar octagon filled with helium carrying a Raspberry Pi... that's actually harder to figure out.

@kairyssdal Have you seen the mess an air-to-air missile striking an object at high altitude leaves behind???🤔 :blobpopcorn:

@kairyssdal blow them all up and let God sort them out is apparently a strategy.

@kairyssdal I don't think that anybody has recovered one of the objects yet, so that's going to slow folks right down on identifying them. But related, has anybody doing high altitude research perhaps lost a lot of research vehicles in the last week? I'm feeling like there's a grad student coming back from the weekend asking what exactly happened to their project.

@kairyssdal It's a waste of perfectly good missiles.

@kairyssdal Well I assume they don't want the world to know how much they know about these things.
