Tbh if I wanted to buy a laptop I would buy a Framework rather than a Thinkpad

@cat8124 The non-Windows version already uses Coreboot

@slylittlefox that's good, but why not use port of, for example, TianoCore for UEFI implementation?

@slylittlefox TianoCore (EDK II) is a "reference implementation of UEFI by Intel"

@cat8124 @slylittlefox Libreboot doesn't support newer hardware like Framework has, yet anyway. Framework has Coreboot support I believe. With the changes Leah has made to Libreboot these days it is pretty much coreboot from a blob standpoint so not much difference.

@slylittlefox The framework has a cool idea, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired, especially in terms of I/O and enclosure.

@RvStitch Still it's lighter and more powerful than ThinkPads

@slylittlefox There is a chasm between them. The Framework is just a toy, whereas the ThinkPad is a workhorse. Which also affects the number of platforms, the Framework has only one and that is Intel. The ThinkPad has three: Intel, Amd and Qualcomm. Not to mention the graphics problems with Intel's latest processors which are used in the Framework. And the Framework's case also leaves a lot to be desired. It's all flimsy and loose. And ports on the modules look cool but it is too high delay on them due to the fact that modules are implemented not through the fastest adapters.
