       Ya know, if this #lithium  deposit is so important to our #transportation #infrastructure then maybe, just maybe, we should negotiate with the #indigenous peoples that the #land was #stolen from and ask them to mine the lithium in a way that is respectful to their #ancestors Oh, and they should get the proceeds from the sale of the lithium too. Can the US stop #stealing stuff from indigenous peoples already?

       This is the letter I sent to our US Congress:Thacker Pass lithium mineOur Country has committed enough atrocities against the Indigenous peoples of this land that our ancestors stole from them and we are about to do it again.I understand lithium is essential to converting our transportation system from fossil fuels to electricity. Still, we need to do so in a way that is respectful to the land and the people that inhabited that land for centuries prior to being conquered.1/

       Why can our government not negotiate with the Indigenous peoples of this land and work with them to not just extract the lithium in a way that will honor their ways and their history, but also provide them with an additional income stream?  Why is it that our government always looks to take instead of empowering the people of an area with a resource we need?2/

       We must stop this archaic practice of just taking what we need without regard for who we are taking it from.  Let's work with the people that were the original stewards of this land to bring them out of the poverty that we have continued to thrust upon them.If our government cannot do this then we have absolutely failed as a society.  Please, do not repeat the atrocities of our past and allow this project to proceed without absolute partnership with the Indigenous peoples.3/3
