is it just me or is the whole "mystery airship" story completely overblown. feels like editors and producers are relieved to jump all over something with a simple narrative and no real stakes that will definitely generate clicks.

everyone knows China is surveilling the US, same as we are surveilling them. discovery/revelation of some of the physical devices they use to do it is a short post on some military hardware blog, not front-page news for a week.

"every small town with a freight rail like running through it could end up a super-fund site because of deregulation and cost-cutting" seems like a bigger story, but it might implicate rich people, and i guess you can't blame the Chinese for it either.

like, imagine if the Chinese were threatening to drop a couple tons of toxic chemicals on a random small American town once a year. holy cow, the **billions** we would spend to stop that.

@peter they gave everyone $1000 in what is certainly not a binding settlement agreement, why would you even think that. Just because we won't put in writing that it's not binding, that's just our mean old lawyers. Anyway everything is fine
