Huh - I just accidentally made a rich-text post in Mastodon - I did not realize it even supported that. The bold text arrived by posting - is there a syntax for doing it manually? Hoping it's #Markdown...

@shacker Support seems to differ depending on client (though it doesn’t look bad, per se). This is how it appears in @MonaApp

@shacker It‘s markdown. My Mastodon-app doesn’t render the formatting. I realized my brain parses #markdown on the fly.

@shacker Maybe it’s the app you’re using to render it? Or the instance? Coincidentally, I tried using Markdown earlier tonight and it didn’t do anything. And your previous post doesn’t look like it has rich text in the mobile Safari web client for me, either.

@goosname Oh that's interesting. I am using elk.zone on the web as a client, and my instance is zirk.us. I've attached a screenshot of how it looks to me, with the bold type circled.

@spencer Good to know. Maybe this is a new feature, and support will roll out across clients slowly?

@jeff @MonaApp Ah - unparsed. Not surprising. I'll shy away from it for a while until support becomes widespread.

Just updated elk.zone to the latest and it grew a wee editor tools widget.

@shacker @spencer although if you're looking for a way of dissuading admins from implementing markdown on instances, it's putting your *entire* post in **bold**.
