But I will start to promote my alt accounts for my Mastodon users, and this is a good time to reduce my activity. This is the real reason that I’ve worried so much about what other users do, but I realized it didn’t help anyone or this instance. I will just migrate my followers, start fresh here, and continue having fun.And the reason why I have @james2 is so people looking at my current account in the future won’t be confused about what my main account is. So please follow me there. I’ll still use this account until I decide to migrate it.

It actually started when infosec.exchange accidentally blocked our instance. We were already blocked by mastodon.art, octodon and others. But infosec was a large and well-known instance. They blocked instances because Mastodon was growing and others were starting to block instances too.When they blocked us, that’s when others started to block our instance too. Infosec later apologized for blocking us (within one day, thanks to our complaints, and we forgave them), but because of timing, it was too late, and all hell broke loose from there.Later, toot.wales, ENVS, linux.social, oldbytes.space and mas.to (just today!) blocked us, just to name a few. And since Pleroma launched, people have blocked the whole domain for Starnix. I stayed as long as possible just to see what would happen. Other people are still on Starnix, and I like to interact with them. Unfortunately I’ve only saved this instance one time, but I’ve been a bit too complacent trying to save it from some of the others, and it is probably more difficult now.Even if I migrate this account away from Starnix, I will still keep my other accounts unless things get really bad, beyond FediBlock. And this account will have my legacy set in stone.I will keep this account for now, but I will start posting from my other accounts and boost them here while I wait to find a new home, knowing my followers are on the line. I also want to set up a follow canary account just to see how much of the fediverse Starnix can still reach. I’ll try to save this instance if possible. But I’ll mainly collect data as I figure out how the fediverse is being split.But I’m grateful for the fact that Starnix existed, as it helped #DistroToot refugees find a home, and it helped me find a lot of friends on the fediverse, and I’ll continue to support it for as long as possible. #DistroTootRefugee
