What's happening with NORAD's daily discovery of UAPs is familiar to anybody who has seen companies discover that their breach was due to poorly tuned alerting or logs not ending up in their SEIM, which then overreacts by chasing down every changed password until the team collapses after two weeks.

@alex Hopefully the average company has more sensible internal risk assessments than deflecting criticism from performative hawks in the opposing political party.

@alex That makes it seem like they're flailing around after a failure. I see the first one as a success that they're not normally set up to have, so they're adapting and double checking to make sure they're not missing anything.

@alex This reminds me of my own experience launching a balloon into near space with a bunch of hobbyists about 10 years ago. We attempted to figure out who we might want to register it with and came up with a "no one cares" although I did find some suggestion that we should include some chaff in case it was big enough to bother airplanes. NOW they care, I guess. I wonder if they have a reporting process for hobbyists yet. Somehow I find that doubtful.
