I'm looking for advice/help. I use my Instagram account very sporadically. On Jan 28, I wanted to share a photo and was met with a bizarre notification:"Upload a verification selfie. Step 1 Clearly write your name, username, and this code on a piece of clean paper. Step 2. Take a selfie that shows you holding the paper. Your face and hand should be visible."Unbelievably, this is legit.Since I was out and about, I did not have a clean sheet of paper on me./1 of 4#instagram #question

(Just to head it off at the start, advising me to use Pixelfed or Flickr or whatever is not an answer to my question.)(I use Flickr.)(I do not understand why everyone else seems to like Instagram.)(I don't use Pixelfed because I don't like Instagram so don't have any reason to think that I'll like Pixelfed either.)(That's all irrelevant to my question: Is there any way for me to get back on Instagram?) /5 of 4

@SoNotNic This is so interesting. I use Instagram, but not Facebook for years. (FB was toxic for me). I've never heard of anything like what happened to you. It's very odd that they would accuse you if you never posted anything counter to their rules. I can only think it must be a mistake. The whole selfie with a piece of paper thing is very suspicious. Sounds more like a phishing scam.

Since I use Instagram so rarely, I forgot about it for quite some time, but then I had another photo I wanted to share, and this time I was at home, so I took the stupid selfie and uploaded it (and felt icky and violated by the process). And then I forgot about it again. Yesterday, I wanted to share a photo and found that I had been logged out of Instagram altogether. When I logged in, I got this error message: /2 of 4

@farbel I totally thought it was a scam at first, but this is a nonsensical thing that Instagram really does.https://help.instagram.com/1053588012132894

"You can't use Instagram because your account didn't follow our Community Guidelines. This decision can't be reversed either because we've already reviewed it, or because 30 days have passed since your account was disabled." I've received no emails from Instagram about this. I'm obviously not a big Instagram user so this doesn't really impact my life much, but I am bothered by its wrongness. /3 of 4

@SoNotNic bizarre! Is having an account important to you? If not, I'd say just let it slide. If so, just keep bugging support, I guess. I still wonder how you supposedly violated their rules. Especially if your FB account is connected and still up and running.

My most recent Instagram posts still show up on my Facebook page (I had linked the two accounts). Most recently I posted photos of my kid's drone races. I've also posted photos of my pets. Nothing nefarious. Anything I can do or is this the definitive end of my already tenuous relationship with Instagram? /4 of 4
