@colonelj The eyebrows and blackened teeth were the iconic markers of Japanese princesses in a time before the Shogun and samurai and garish buddhist monasteries when the Yamato were still relative newcomers to the isles, butchering their way across Honshu, expressing the blood frenzy at the core of their culture in tones more reminiscent of Maya man-eaters than the super-sanitized romantic portrayal of Japanese antiquity foisted upon us today.
