god damn they really weren't kidding about vim taking an entire lifetime to learn everything. You type :help for one out of the hundreds of commands and get 50 page dumps of all the variants for it.

@MischievousTomato @pernia I've been using vim casually for some time because I started having RSI issues and vim allows you to stay on home row. Actual RSI damage comes from moving your hands around a lot when typing. Vim bindinds make it so you can do really really really intricate manipulations without moving your hands. I never really looked deeper into the control scheme though. You obviously don't need to learn them all but I would not be surprised if there were literally 20,000 unique commands by default.

@pernia @MischievousTomato vscode absolutely kills me because it's like 95% of the way to being a good editor but it's got so many QoL issues that make it clunky to use, mostly related to interface limitations and extensions that are always incomplete. Use ideavim vs vscode's vim. Ideavim just blows it out of the god damn water.

@pernia @MischievousTomato I believe that was a big part of it, yes. I think that's true for people in general and it's why computer users who get RSI always get it in their mouse hand. When I stopped using the mouse and arrow keys the problems mostly went away.

@pernia @MischievousTomato @skylar they definitely do because they keep your hands on home row which makes it much easier to maintain proper wrist posture. I probably had to switch as often as anybody else who isn't using vim. Either that or use the arrow keys. I was just doing it for way too long periods of the day furiously typing the whole time

@pernia @MischievousTomato not that bad, but definitely far longer than any program with a feature set that limited has a right to. Visual Studio takes fucking forever but its static analyzing your code with the force of god. vscode in its default state is notepad with a web interface
