At a recent event, I interviewed a guy about the TI calculator being used to write a Python program sent to a Microbit to control a drone. But, the question in my head was, “Why do I need the calculator? Aren’t there websites that can replace the calculator work in control of the Microbit?” I did ask the question. The answer? “So kids can program w/o an Internet or wifi connection on the bus.” What do you think?

@mguhlin You are correct. Not every kid has internet access -- which excludes a lot of kids from STEM. Here's someone doing something about that: https://www.steamconnection.org/aboutTI wants to catch and keep you in their ecosystem with the TI-84 Plus CE-T Python Edition: https://education.ti.com/en-gb/products/calculators/graphing-calculators/ti-84-plus-ce-t-pythonBut someone will eventually open source a graphing calculator with a Python IDE, USB port, etc.

@mguhlin My thought is that I love that there are worlds of which I know nothing about. And I love that there are spaces where I can interact with these worlds. I know this doesn’t answer your question, sorry, but I felt like sharing it.

@alejocrisostomo Right back at you, Alejo. That is the beauty of connecting via social media...not that you encounter people just like yourself but that you can learn from complete strangers, finding ideas like shells on distant shores.
