@cattailnu They had been playing each other so long, it was astonishing that there was still a winner and a loser. Just as astonishing was that neither had won two games in a row. Over time the games had changed, but this one was lasting longer than most. It offered the most variety and depth of any they had played before, and, until something better came along, this one was it. Just the two of them, none of their attendants or allies, locked together.Some games took longer, others shorter, but they mostly stayed around the same length. There was one pair of games where one of them won in just a few moves, and the following game seemed to take forever. These days it seemed that half the games were taking longer than the others. Maybe one day one of them would lose two in a row, and then the contest between them would be over.For now, Winter still defeats Summer, and Summer, Winter.

@cattailnu Was it fair, I pondered, she was not really all that good. Yet she read my every move like an open book by watching me, that was her gift. Why should my life be erased in the great game? It was time, for me to use my gift, too.My eyes staring ahead, slipping my mind from my body was so easy. The board I could now play viewing from the left rather than from behind. I could see all the moves needed to reach the end game and victory, but always, it is returning that is the tricky part.

@cattailnu indeed, but it is not simply fiction. I had faced someone who actually had that kind of social intelligence and awareness playing chess. Worse for me, it was a game I actually almost never played before then. I actually did re-think how I looked at and thought of the board to do so as if seeing it from the side to win. I didn't leave my body to do it, though...
