I have no problem with #capitalism. When someone is willing to take a financial risk and they succeed, I accept that they will increase their wealth as a result and I won't begrudge them the luxuries that that will allow them to afford. What must be prevented is an #unregulated capitalism that allows individuals to amass obscene amounts of wealth when increasing wealth equates to increasing power over others, allowing for #abuse, #oppression and #exploitation.

@rozeboosje Paradoxical. You do not oppress others, exploit them, or abuse them by offering a better wage, service, or product at a better price.

@rozeboosje Wealth creation is not a zero sum game. One person having it does not mean another does not. In a free market, every dollar is earned by providing MORE in value to consumer, the community is more wealthy than the company that serves it.

@elliswyatt @rozeboosje sure but practically there is no free market when multinationals own all of the buildings they rent out to other corps. How do you compete globally when you can't even serve your own community? We keep getting tech companies like Uber, AirBnB, WeWork, etc that try and get around it with scale and they just continually get worse and collapse once the investors' money runs out.

@evanpeterjones @rozeboosje Well let's start with some assumptions, why do you have to compete multinationally, and why do you think they are capable of buying so much (hint, regulatory capture). You're right, there is no free market, but it's not because some people have more than you, it's because there are gov'ts that will favour them over you.

@elliswyatt @rozeboosje Well, multinationals exist and if you sell in the same market you are inherently in competition with them, that's why.The government should do its job and prevent large companies like Facebook from buying their competition (Instagram, whatsapp, oculus)––but any time the government tries to do this, it's called socialism. Use the boogeyman of socialism enough and people will adopt it as a moniker for any form of regulation (which is where we're at now!)

@elliswyatt @rozeboosje also that's literally OPs point––you agree. They have amassed obscene wealth so that then the Gov "favours" them over you.

@evanpeterjones @rozeboosje And that's not capitalism. You get that right? The entire point of this was to differentiate what is fascism from what it isn't, capitalism.

@elliswyatt @rozeboosje this is dwindling toward unproductive so I may just leave but I'm curious what you think fascism is?

@evanpeterjones @rozeboosje the reason why these things exist as they are is a result of govt interference. More inrerference isnt the solution.

@evanpeterjones @rozeboosje An authoritarian collectivist state partnering with large enterprises purportedly for the greater good. As mussolini called it, corporatism.

@elliswyatt @rozeboosje unfortunately you're just factually wrong. When Facebook bought its competition, that was the unregulated* free market—that's what this post is about. Unregulated anticompetitive behavior that clobbers everyone into a market failure. It seems completely delusional to me to think that without the government companies would somehow act outside of their own interests. It would be nice if they would for the health of the climate and plenty other things though.
