Yea, I think I'm just gonna nuke my #Windows partition today. More room for testing out #Linux distros that way. (Something I sincerely miss doing). The only thing I imagine needing Windows for now is #Thunderbird testing, and I can do that with a VM. And if I can't play a game on Linux, #SteamDeck, or #Xbox, then I just won't play it!

@baiteh I've always left one there "just in case." (mainly gaming reasons or performance testing between Linux and Windows). But I really have no desire to have it there anymore.

@killyourfm My gaming PC is the last Windows machine I have. It’s got an upgrade (or a replacement) due this year and I won’t be going back to Windows. Work PC running PopOS plays all my games just fine from a compatibility standpoint even though the hardware is substantially less powerful.

@bflipp *enthusiastic nodding* Proton has come SO FAR since it launched. And for the underpowered hardware, we can enjoy things like library-wide FSR (even if you don't have a Radeon GPU).

@MA_Debsin Innnnteresting indeed. So it has an Ubuntu base but you can opt out of Snaps, and it's immutable like SteamOS. These are very good things.

@killyourfm @baiteh Even since the early 2000's I've always found it less painful to have to write an occasional patch for WINE to get a game working that isn't yet than to put up with the constant disruptions to my workflow and just in general poor usability of windows day to day, generally a patch takes me a week at the most and even then a game that didn't work after a few tweaks even back then wasn't all THAT common, like 1-2 times a year for me.

@killyourfm @baiteh true, but we've by and large made it so they don't have to at this point, in the early 2000's WINE was a bit more manual to set up game-by-game, so in general either I would get it working or someone would beat me to it, post everything up on appdb, then in later years projects like playonlinux and Lutris would go even further and automate the setup. Now with proton and packing the per-game patches it's pretty much seamless for 99% of games, most just work.
