Thunderbird jumps on the constant UI changes train: https://blog.thunderbird.net/2023/02/the-future-of-thunderbird-why-were-rebuilding-from-the-ground-up/Glad I stopped using it.From HN: "If something already works, and we know how to use it, there had better be a damn good reason for changing it, because you are burdening thousands, millions, or even billions of people with yet another entirely unnecessary learning task in our already over-stressed lives."

@phoenix So why did you switch? That's the most massive UI change you could possibly make.

@nordern I switched when they introduced their own OpenPGP implementation.A one-time (painful) change you recover from rather quickly. It's the thousands knives-cuts that kill you.

YES. UI changes are a freaking plague.Sometimes necessary but they kill muscle memory and usability. If you declare your product a UI playground it stops being a tool and becomes just a toy.Just leave the god damn buttons where they are. Aesthetics < Usability. At least in my opinion.

@phoenix I agree on the constant UI changes, but right now it's just complaining about *a* UI change we haven't even seen yet.Personally, I just use it to check my unread mails in the morning, get reminders and search old mail. And it's not particularly good at any of them, so I see little room to go anywhere but the right direction. But I also think that there are no good email clients. I just use thunderbirds because in my tests it handled my nested automatic folders the best

@nordern This is Mozilla speaking. We know what to expect.Remember Colorways?https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/personalize-firefox-colorwaysThey introduced a time limited UI theme with a disrupting "Welcome to Colorway! Let's take a few moments to configure this feature that will be only temporary" dialog. The death of a thousand knives-cuts.

@grillchen @nordern Mozilla is doing great things. It's their vision of "Innovation justifies every change" and let's just randomly change the UI with every major update that is really annoying. I'm using Firefox because it's a fine browser, not because the UI is so fancy.Dear Mozilla: Stop fiddling with the buttons and menus constantly, that sucks! And don't do the same to Thunderbird!!!
