I feel the russians have been seen as evil for hundred of years. In the hollywood movies they always played the evil low iq brute.Hitler saw them as subhumans. And there are so little media, films, documentaries showing how russians really are as a people.

@diceynes Yeah, Stalker is one of his! An absolute masterpiece. Did you know that they had the film completely finished, and then the shack they were editing in “mysteriously” caught fire, destroying the entire thing? They had to reshoot it ALL on a budget of LITERALLY nothing, nobody got paid for the reshoot that eventually became the film you and I were able to see. It’s nothing like the original version, but everyone involved thinks this fudged, budgetless reshoot was better than the original.They filmed it in some irradiated hellhole and quite a lot of the cast and crew got horrible health conditions from it. If memory serves, it’s what actually ended up killing Tarkovsky in the end, and he said it was worth it.

@hermit I look forward to watch these films. I got them by pirating the criterion collection torrenting them in high resolution rips. Russians for example know alot about the US. They share all the american movies in bluray remux rips. Theres alot of russian sites pirating american films.(pirating for personal use is legal in spain)

@hermit I recommend fassbinder the german director. If you have to choose one to see ali:fear eats the soul.I didn't expect to have concentration to watch these movies but they are immensely pleasurable to watch.
