To the Dutchies out there who do home self-hosting: which Internet provider do you use? Requirements: it needs to be fast, reliable, and have as much balance as possible on the DL/UL rate. Here in the center of Amsterdam they have recently upgraded all Ziggo users to the new shiny thing.I use my own self-built router regardless as a gateway to my home network, and only use their plastic box as a dumb bridge, but after the upgrade the download speed has indeed gone through the roof.Except that...upload speed hasn't increased, and it has actually gone even lower. To the point that the upload rate is >90% slower than the download rate.Of course most of the users don't care (if Netflix streams without glitches, that's all that matters), but as somebody who self-hosts a lot of stuff in his cabinet this really hurts. It doesn't matter much for low-bandwidth services, but my NextCloud and Matrix servers are slow to access from outside of my network because upload rates are painfully slow.Do you know of any Ziggo plans for a more balanced bandwidth allocation? Or maybe another provider?

@blacklight@social.platypush.tech The best plan Ziggo offers is to cancel your service with them. They're considered the most American provider we have for a reason. Switch if you can.To answer your initial question: Freedom. I currently have a gigabit fiber connection with them, with a static IP and all ports usable as it should be. They're a tad more expensive than alternative providers, but they have top-notch customer support.

@blacklight I'm pretty happy with @freedominternet - I think it's fair to say that it's the successor of xs4all, as it's operated by some of the same people after all.

@tyil @simondassow thanks for the tip! I've taken a look, but I guess that the service provided varies a lot depending on the area. It seems that what they can offer in the center of Amsterdam is quite modest - and it seems that, at least here in the center, they piggyback on KPN, which is quite notorious for its bad performance in Amsterdam...That's quite a shame because a provider with a good customer service would be a big reason for me to leave #Ziggo. I eventually managed to set their crappy box in bridged mode so it just passively forwards all the traffic to my router, but in order to get there I had to spend half a day on phone with 5 operators who had no clue of what I was talking about...

@blacklight @tyil @simondassow I was coming here to mention Freedom Internet as well. That's the one I use (and do self-hosting).

@blacklight @tyil Calling that connection speed quite modest is quite modest. That's what I would maybe expect on the country side far out from the DSLAM, and don't get how this is the case in Amsterdam.Customer service was a driver for me to move as well, as I also prefer talking to support people who know their stuff, and avoid being forwarded from one queue to the other in between.
