Slowly but surely, the #openweb is dying: from big companies monopolies, algorithms, and walled gardens that restrict what you can see or do (yes, I know, ironic then to post a youtube video), the various filters countries have put in place, or the full on blackouts and alternative closed webs, it's getting trickier to really have a complete, unbiased access to the full web.Let's discuss, and let's see a few ways the internet might still be healing:@owa https://youtu.be/pjTzQJxw-20

@thelinuxEXP @owa Good video. But please don't confuse World Wide Web with Internet, it really hurts the ears 😅. It's important to keep proper namings, as without it we cannot spread our ideas about more and more complicated, abstract digital world.

@thelinuxEXPI think that we are simply following the example of hardware. It is very hard to find a computer that is built for Linux (unless you click the link in the video;). Open systems and software are very much opt-in only. You have to search for them.I just removed Any Video Converter and streamlabs from a church computer. I have to tell them multiple times about handbrake and OBS. Too many just want to be spoon-fed & companies know that. Heck, AOL ruled for years because of this.

@thelinuxEXP This and your recent video on web browsers really articulate how I've been feeling quite cynical about the state of the internet, and nostalgic for the internet of 20 years ago. We have gained so much content in 2 decades, yet lost so much of what the internet was. Mastodon itself is a breath of fresh air and feels truly free&open.
