Warner Bros. reportedly abandoning plans -- that were announced with great fanfare not long ago -- to merge HBO Max and Discovery streaming services. - https://www.avclub.com/warner-bros-switching-geas-hbo-max-discovery-merger-1850088498

@lauren I will say that executives are continuing the tradition of naming things badly. Renaming HBO Max to Max is stupid.

@DuncanWatson @lauren There's a mockumentary show in the UK called W1A about the BBC. They have a branding company come in, who change the 'BBC Three' channel ident to 'III' . Later in real life, BBC3 gets rebranded, as 'II!', although it's been changed back now. https://www.theguardian.com/media/mediamonkeyblog/2016/jan/04/bbc3-rebrand-w1a-siobhan-sharpe

@TonyJWells @DuncanWatson As I recall, when I was in London many years ago, on TV there was just BBC1, BBC2, and ITV.

@lauren @DuncanWatson On terrestrial analogue UHF we had BBC 1 and 2, and independent ITV, then Channel 4, and Channel 5 as national channels. On the switchover to digital 'Freeview' using the same transmitters, we gained BBC3 (youth) and 4 ('culture') and a bunch of other channels from commercial providers of varying quality.

@TonyJWells @DuncanWatson Come to think of it, maybe it was Channel 4 I remember, not ITV.
