Every night I put on a podcast with a 60 minute timer on my iPhone 6S and fall asleep to it.This week I'll be upgrading to a "modern" iPhone which means no audio port.How can I still listen to podcasts before bed and make sure my phone gets charged overnight? My current solutions are a Lightning to USB converter (see pic) and sound card plugged in or velcro tying a Qi charger to the back.I don't want to go to sleep with Bluetooth in. They have a habit of shouting "BATTERY LOW" at 3am.

Is something like this any good? They're only $9 so I have a hard time trusting that they'll last very long.

@vees The speaker on your phone isn't loud enough? Or is the charger too far away? I just put a charger on my bedside table for the times I need to charge my phone at night, or when my pain levels are so high I spend the whole day in bed noodling on my iPad.

@vees things like this usually work just fine. At $9 I’d worry about longevity a bit, but given my experiences with charging cables, more $ != more quality

@vees I can’t say if those are good, but if the new phone has MagSafe charging, you could just get a MagSafe battery, stick it to the back and let it charge off that overnight? Just charge the battery during the day.I use AirPods Pro for this purpose and they’re small enough not to bug me if I fall asleep with them in.

@vees My solution was to finally get my wife to be ok with listening to All Things Considered on WAMU (I’m even still a member!) on the Sonos while we drift off to sleep.

@vees it’s just the regular stream, so you get all the normal stuff. But it’s weird to be listening to Morning Edition from KQED (SF) on the trek home from work! For wake-up, WAMU is usually running their BBC World Service feed.

@target I get a local news tacked on to the beginning or end of the audio, and it'll change based on the IP I'm coming from stateside (usually between WAMU and WHYY).

@vees I listen through the speaker. At its lowest volume, and directly under my ear on the pillow, my partner can’t hear it but for me it’s loud enough that I need to move it slightly further away

@Kayray My battery has seen probably upwards of 400 full cycles so I doubt it's performing optimally during charges.

@vees @target oh this thread is helpful. I have always wondered how the podcast knew which NPR affiliate to tack onto my programs. The IP addres must persist for a bit bc when I travel I will still get WAMU before it flips to KQED, WHYY, etc
