I just booted into my #Windows partition for the first time in about 4 months. My intent was to test the difference in performance for Hogwart's Legacy between Windows 11 and Kubuntu. OH MY GOD, I forgot how painfully and frustratingly slow Windows feels by comparison. What a slog. Not even worth comparing. I'll let the professionals do it 😂 Long live #linux.

@killyourfm I feel like this every time I'm forced to use it, SO much of Windows feels like computing back in the 90s compared with using KDE Plasma now

@gamingonlinux And I feel like it's only regressed from Windows 10 to Windows 11. But you are absolutely right. Even KDE Plasma on an underpowered laptop is ridiculously more smoother and responsive than Windows 11 on my 3900X/6800XT tower.

@gamingonlinux @killyourfm I basically just log on Windows to update my Nvidia graphics drivers! Can't use that anymore!

@sirmikester @gamingonlinux No argument there. I don't use GNOME, but it's really responsive these days.

@killyourfm @hellvolution @gamingonlinux I think he said that he occasionally reboots into Windows with the sole goal of updating Windows and once his update OCD brain is happy then he goes back to Linux.

@killyourfm @gamingonlinux I use Debian; I do basically everything on Debian. But when I see Nvidia released a new GPU driver, I log on Windows to install it (for windows). I actually don't remember the last time I needed to use Windows. I look for hardware compatibility with Linux before buying stuff, and all the softwares I use, I can use on Linux; even games!

@killyourfm Slow in what way? #Windows11 boots instantly and have a ready desktop in less than 20 seconds. Besides, I rarely shutdown #Windows

@killyourfm I feel your pain. A friend gave me his laptop to check why is it slow, it was a DISASTER, all those weird tray apps, ads, antiviruses (he had two installed, haha), and overall slowness...And by the way, you know what? In two of those antiviruses there was no option to disable it, at all, you just can't, you need to uninstall it if you want it to stop. And one of them seemed to resist removal altogether, because every time it wrote that "removal" was already running.

@killyourfm @gamingonlinux I work on windows 10. Boot up, logon from locked and shutting down are incredible. My 500€ Linux desktop beats my 2 years old Lenovo ThinkPad from work regarding OS

And on a related note: Going forward I will NEVER support another game with #Denuvo #DRM. 💀 Learn from my mistakes, #Linux gamers! I didn't know Hogwart's Legacy had Denuvo. I also didn't know that Denuvo treats every version of #Steam #Proton *like an entirely different device.* Needless to say, I'm now locked out of playing it. #TodayILearned #Gaming

@killyourfm I wish there was a whole list of similar experiences, that could be shared with people to underline the importance avoiding denuvo/drm in games. Experiences like these make it more tangible :(

@killyourfm I have been scrolling down through every steam game on my wishlist looking for DRM mentions before ever deciding to have any feel or commitment for any title, gaming has gotten infested by corporate interest and it is very unfortunate. GOG is basically the only place I currently trust, aside from piracy.

@killyourfm Unfortunately, one might have to extend that to "never support publisher known to use Denuvo on released games", as some seem to feel like *adding* that after the initial release is a good course of action.e.g. Bethesda/ZeniMax added it to Ghostwire: Tokyo this week, with an update, a year after the game launched:https://steamdb.info/app/1475810/history/?changeid=U:37459162https://store.steampowered.com/app/1475810/Ghostwire_Tokyo/They also updated the game's EULA to having to consent to them using any "anti-tamper tool" instead of "anti-cheat tool".Off of my wishlist it goes...#Bethesda #ZeniMax #Denuvo #Steam #GhostwireTokyo
