       Google wasn't great but there was a certain level of "maybe we shouldn't release all these harmful 'AI' models to the public" (never enough not to research and develop them though) vibe. That's what OpenAI and MS shattered.

       OpenAI's research isn't that groundbreaking (visible by looking at how quickly a lot of stuff is cloned) but the political and social effects are massive.OpenAI is the (as @danmcquillan would call it) "AI realism machine". That's what they produce: The belief that there is no alternative, that "AI" is a given an not something we can decide not to do to avoid harms.

       @drdelle Of course you are right. But we also know how businesses are controlled by "the market" and what leadership believes "the market" to "want"

       @tante @danmcquillan as is with bitcoin, there is really no alternative because competition among humans does not allow an alternative, more ideal/romantic nash-equilibrium. Somebody will always exploit.I know you are an Idealist - but every Game is played according to the *enforceable* rules and in our society there is no way to force more Idealistic rules. If we dont use AI the competition will. Its a luxority to claim ChatGPT is bad - because in reality it already pushes millions of people out of their jobs.We cannot circumvent that or stop it - we can only deal with the necessary changes in social structures. #UBI, #BGEBut same as fighting #bitcoin --  this is a Don Quijote fight against Windmills and cannot be won.
