@franktaber @clive there is. It’s native to the platform. Add .rss to the end of any user name you want to follow. So, mine would be something like: justinmwhitaker@mastodon.social.rssI think. At least that’s what the documentation says.

@clive Love me some RSS and follow the same philosophy as you. For those viewing this thread, let me also recommend Hardly Everything for sites that don't have RSS feeds (I use it for IG accounts, design-studio websites, literary quarterlies, etc.). @clive @justinmwhitaker @franktaber no, it's separate software I created that converts RSS to activitypub. Hometown does support rendering full blog posts though, but that's a separate and complementary feature

@clive Been using RSS for years, and I love the term “rewilding”. On Mastodon, I rewild by making sure I spend time outside my Home feed, browsing Local, Fediverse, and Explore to discover new and interesting things.

@clive I shared your homage to RSS far and wide. I imagine a lot of your followers here have similar interests to you, have you considered sharing an OPML of your subscriptions? My takeaway: can I use my RSS service (@feedbin) to follow the news sites I normally check 5-10 times a day? Worth a try.

@clive I love this idea of rewilding attention! As I was reading your earlier article with the 9 tips, I was struck by how similar the strategies were to how I used to use the internet as a young teen, before social media was even a thing. I remember spending hours online just diving into a random topic and reading all I could find out about it. It opened my mind in a way that I'd forgotten about in the social media era. I do miss that feeling of absorption and wonder; maybe I can get it back!

@ParolePerdute so glad you liked it! And indeed, yeah, the Internet is still lying there with all its weirdness for deep – diet exploration… It’s just that the good stuff rarely moves across social media, so you have to go back to panning for gold yourself, in which there’s a lot of trial and error
