This is a detail of a potting shed room box I made about 30 years ago for my gardening mentor Leonard Pierce. It is 1:12 dollhouse scale. (The blue pot in the background with the fern in it was is a toothpaste cap.) The whole thing is about the size of a large shoebox.Besides making all the tiny plants, I made the table, the window frame and shutter, and the ladder that leads to a loft.#Miniatures #1:12Scale #Dollhouse #Diorama

@fairhavenguy aaaaaaa this is amazing!! The toothpaste cap is a nice touch, I love reimagining ordinary things at a different scale! How did you make the plants?(I love miniatures and dioramas so much that I have to make up explanations like "I'm compensating for my HUGE... love of miniatures." My retirement dream is to build a gallery that's basically a whole block of tiny rooms all from different imaginary worlds. I am going to follow you and anyone else who posts teeny tiny things.)

@Earthtoerika A few ways to make plants: Most are made by cutting leaves from paper and gluing them to florist wire, then painting with acrylic paints. I made fern fronds by cutting feathers into triangular shapes and using acrylic paint on a very stiff brush to both color them and separate the barbs of the feathers to make them fernlike. I have also made snake plants using green twist ties.

@fairhavenguy Wonderful! More discovery of the connections and analogies between different objects and how you can make one look like another. I am fascinated.

@fairhavenguy (In my experimentation for the otherworldly miniatures idea, I built one little apartment full of alien wire-and-bead trees --they were planted in various bottle caps using coffee grounds mixed with glue for the dirt. Using speculative fiction settings to expand what things can look like was kind of cheating, but for me it's addictive. I need to remake those dioramas sometime, now that I think I can do it more competently.)
