It's crazy how Fediverse moderators will literally ban your account, without any accountability or appeal process, and prevent you from connecting with your friends. @AlgorithmWolf I have a space where my users are in contact with each other outside of Fedi. There is an administrative group that the entire instance was invited to, where everyone gets to make their voice heard. Everyone there is ENCOURAGED to give feedback on the rules and rulings.But also, I'll be the first to admit that rodent.life is NOT an "anything goes" instance. It's in the rules. It's on the about page. There are rules, that I made up, and the moderation team is myself and one other person.So I don't think it's ALL Fedi admins. I've seen a few with some really great communities. My main peeve is the attacks that a small subset of Fedi admins make attacks against other admins/instances. They feel like they are important enough to throw their weight around and pressure other instances into doing what they want. (Or otherwise risking being blocked with the reason "Federates with [people that do wrong-think]".) It's a bullying tactic of getting those they can manipulate to attack whoever doesn't agree or conform.

@formication like I mentioned later down the thread, hatred-based ideologies should be actively suppressed. This includes (any) supremacism, fascism, nazism, homophobia and LGBTphobia and more. Beyond that, things are fuzzy, so a god discussion should be had on this topic. I find blocking servers because they federate with people you have blocked to be not only a disproportionate measure but also one that leads to self censoring. The other thing I greatly dislike is how people will permanently ban you without explanation or a chance to mend what you did. This too should change. Finally, the trend of banning people because of random anonymous accusations (like this person is a pedo, that person is whatever) without admins demanding irrefutable proof is highly worrying in my opinion. What are your thoughts?

"Mostly" is another question, but that's going to be speculative and it's also going to involve a lot of skew: someone that just scrolls until he sees something he hates and then replies with aspersions is going to be replying a lot more often. There are only about 25 people on there that were persistently annoying enough to warrant anything, but because they were part of the same clique and I managed to get most of them to block me, I didn't have further problems.

@AlgorithmWolf i think the problem, in part, is due to the limited moderation tools at their disposal and the emergent toxic meta that these limited tools create in aggregate. the view that "the fediverse" should be a single unified thing/culture/whatever may contribute to this, but i'm not positive about that one. i think these come from a general inability among fediverse software devs to solve the discovery problem, which requires a deep capability to query, filter, and aggregate content from a distributed social graph. the "anti-algorithm" bias really kicks you in the ass when you realize that "strictly reverse-chronological" is itself and algorithm that is deeply baked into pretty much every fediverse server, which makes any discovery & advanced moderation tools really hard to construct.
