For thousands of years, libraries & archives have preserved knowledge and cultural heritage. But in the digital age, that traditional role has been threatened. @internetarchive @brewsterkahle We can't conduct legitimate research on many cultural conflicts because you explicitly are destroying some massive parts of "Our Digital History" Public figures like Donald Trump's tweets as you highlight are original sources of historical importance and cultural heritage. So are Taylor Lorenz's which you, Internet Archive, removed. I wish we could trust you to preserve knowledge. That role is absolutely being threatened. By your decisions.https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/7/23341051/kiwi-farms-internet-archive-backup-removal

@internetarchive @brewsterkahle If we, who have the luxury of having access to (in practice) infinite e-space to store history in wish to do so, we would like it disinfected by idiots with ulterior motives.Jordan, DeSantis, Lake, Gaetz, Trump. Abbot... I'm sorry, i'd prefer they were a part of some other line of primates. Chimps?. In my mind they are already in that line, misplaced in reality by some sinister power.Vote for a circus and you WILL get it. It will not be entertaining though.

@internetarchive @brewsterkahle Libraries, yes. Piracy, no. And the so-called "Internet Archive" engages in unabashed piracy.

@internetarchive This is an important concern. An earlier example I can think of this is the BBS community. When BBSes died, so did the vast majority of their content. Gone forever. It’s very important to keep that kind of thing from happening again. One question I have though is how is the Internet Archive itself preserved? If the organization failed or was removed would the information still be available in other forms? Nothing lasts forever, I hope there are plans for how to save this data.
