Since so many #YouTube videos are mischaracterized as being for kids -- when they really aren't at all -- the fact that YouTube does not permit adding "kids"-tagged videos to playlists is absolutely nuts. There is no mechanism to bookmark a video that has been tagged as being for kids. Why? Nobody has ever been able to explain the supposed risk factor in this situation. I can't think of one. Can you?

@lauren Risk factor to whom? To children, or to Google? Not the same.

@lauren as far as I know kids videos can not be monetised so I guess the risk factor is money lost to Google?

@idiot I'm not talking about monetization. I'm talking about the inability to bookmark (in a playlist) these videos.

@atanas To anyone. Where is the risk factor in permitting the saving of any video to an individual account owners personal playlists? That's the only bookmarking mechanism that YT has.

@Bradley_JF Much less useful in general, and only available when you're viewing YT through a browser, rather than via the YT app itself.

@lauren very true. I view YouTube in the browser on mobile as well though so ads get blocked by HyperWeb for iOS.

@Bradley_JF Well, since I consider blocking of ads that are well behaved to be stealing from creators and sites, that isn't an option I'd use.

@Bradley_JF Pay for YouTube Premium -- that's what I do -- and support the creators rather than block the ads.

@Bradley_JF So that justifies to you your blocking the ads that are the revenue source for creators other than Premium subscriptions? Ah, I see.

@lauren #BendingOverBackwards I guessThe way the choice is presented to creators is counterintuitive. "OK for Kids" is easily interpreted to mean like a 'U" rating, whereas in fact it is more like 'R' i.e restricted...

@lauren maybe because of the way playlists auto-advance? You might click on a kid’s video that’s part of a playlist without realizing and then the next video is not kid-friendly? That’s all I can think of.

@caryndi Playlists only autoplay if you have autoplay enabled. It is trivial to disable.

@lauren Sure, but the possibility is there (and I am assuming auto play is an opt-out and not an opt-in? I truly don’t know, but it seems like a setting Google would prefer people to choose).

@caryndi Why should this matter to an adult at all? Remember, the point here is that NO videos flagged as for kids can be bookmarked in YT. It makes no sense.

@caryndi And a solution to that would be to simply make kids-tagged videos unautoplayable.

@lauren Also, you cannot see a preview of videos for kids (you can only see a static thumbnail). I am similarly confused by the reasoning there.

@lauren Yes that would also be a solution. I have no idea why YouTube would opt for “no kids videos in playlists” and not that. But it makes sense to me that they would make that choice as a company, whether their users like it or not.

@lauren I agree that this is silly and very annoying. It extends to YouTube Music. Playing songs for my kid in the car is more difficult than it needs to be. He likes 10 songs at any given time. I cannot make a playlist of those songs, so I have to voice search if we have a sing along while driving.

@lauren I have been wondering about that since the day it was introduced. I had playlists for my kid. (Also why no mini-player for kids videos?!?!)There is a work-around: click thumbs up, then in the list of videos you like adding to a playlist is still possible.

@thehonorable @GreenSkyOverMe And history is more convenient. The rationale of blocking it directly but permitting it through these workarounds seems nonsensical, and I doubt that they're oversights.
