       Crazy that someone like #EliLake doesn't have a website, apparently expecting everybody to use his #birdsite account. He's published in lots of places, but the closest thing I can find to his own site is his podcast page on somebody else's platform. And his latest episode is about "The Content Moderation Industrial Complex".Nobody moderates you on the #openweb & growing the #fediverse is how we will best correct the attention imbalance on here vs on platforms.        @wjmaggos distributed censorship is for sure present on fedi, though,you can't pretend it doesn't exist what with the shared block lists etc.

       @coldacid yes but I believe it's the best policy we've figured out for managing such systems so far. and I think there will be less of it over time, thanks to growing usage. people are learning, on both sides. to be more open but also to be less trollish.

       @wjmaggos you are hopelessly optimistic. It's going to get worse before it gets better, especially as people keep getting guided to instances which wall themselves off from everything that doesn't adhere strictly to the standards of their own hugboxes.

       @coldacid we have all of human existence for learning how to best interact with others, and then people decided they could disregard all of that on the internet and should be treated as if they didn't. and the woke do a similar thing here, but also on their campus bubbles.humans need both comfortable spaces to be blunt, and ways to manage reasoned participation in the larger culture. we are figuring that out online. reality always wins eventually.
