jesus christ is it literally not possible to change the background color of a swiftui insetgrouped list in ios 15 without resorting to the appearance proxy

oh wait, that at least I can do without. using the generic UIHostingController works correctly with the appearance proxy 'cause of how swift generic types are exposed to objc

and using .listRowBackground completely the selection highlight for buttons/navigationlinks. of coursefucking swiftuinever thought i would miss the incredibly verbose UIBackgroundConfiguration/ configurationUpdateHandler combo

.listRowBackground does not animate at all, if I try to use .background, it doesn't respect edgesIgnoringSafeArea, and I don't actually want to remove the list row insetsthis is the sort of stupid shit that makes me never want to touch SwiftUI again

@shadowfacts posts like this are scary having just started a SwiftUI project. 😅 Wonder how aware of these problems the SwiftUI team is. The frameworks development feels like a black box, much like the rest of Apple.

@mraag When you're on the happy path, it's good, but if you deviate even a little, it can be very painful

seriously considering spending one of my TSIs on this seemingly trivial thing (because I only have like five days left to use them)

@shadowfacts Are you embedding SwiftUI in UIKit in SwiftUI here? 🤨

@bde yes, it’s presented as a sheet so I need another hosting controller to have a narrow enough target for the appearance proxy, rather than affecting literally every table view in the app

       > I've reviewed your request and can confirm this issue is a bug, for which there is no viable workaround at this time.*sigh*I think I am gonna ship this, but the non-pure-black dark mode will just have this stupid bug
