@Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social What you’re referring to as Mastodon, is in fact, Fediverse/Mastodon, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Fediverse plus Mastodon. Mastodon is not the Fediverse unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Fediverse system made useful by ActivityPub.

@thatonecalculator I think what you're doing is confusing "exclusionary" language with "specific audience". For example if I tell people that own dogs to train them to walk on a leash, should I also include every person who walks their cat or turtle on a leash so that they don't feel excluded?I'm talking to the users of Mastodon. Not all of the Fediverse. If that's too "exclusionary" for you then I don't know what else to say.

@thatonecalculator I'm pretty sure that the people on different services within the Fediverse who see my post know that I'm speaking to a specific audience. Especially since the only way they will see my post is if it boosted by people FROM MASTODON or of they follow me ON MASTODON themselves. I'll tell you what. I'll make you a deal. @cyberdystopia@minidisc.tokyo It's kind of interesting seeing how "the best software" doesn't necessarily mean it will become the most dominant within an ecosystem or the most popular amongst a userbase. Case in point: Mastodon. It's probably the worst software amongst the Fediverse from both backend, frontend, and user experience/feature standpoints. @ishtar I wasn’t excluding non-mastodon users from the Fediverse. What this was referring to was a post where I was speaking directly to Mastodon users and someone got upset that I didn’t refer to all of the Fediverse.

@Mrfunkedude @knhy You can certainly address a toot to that audience, but afaik there's no way to restrict it to that audience. Toots are tooted into the whole Fediverse, as God intended.
