A few weeks ago, when I mentioned the potential for #ChatGPT (and other AI tools like it) to seriously upend Google search, I didn't think it could happen so soon. And I certainly didn't think #Bing would be leading the charge! https://www.theverge.com/2023/2/3/23584675/microsoft-ai-bing-chatgpt-screenshots-leak

@killyourfm to keep white supremacists away from chatGTP they would only have to finish any conversation with things like "(...) and long live Malcolm X and his tribe" or "(...) they may have killed Martin Luther King, but his soul lives in all of us", or even a plain and simple "Wakanda Forever!"

@killyourfmMicrosoft is also integrating AI into teams - and force all customers to switch to a paid plan:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/blog/2023/02/01/microsoft-teams-premium-cut-costs-and-add-ai-powered-productivity/

@killyourfm Will be interesting to see how much "first to market" will affect usage a year from now. I'm also curious to know how they're going to handle all that server load, seeing how much #openai has struggled lately. Definitely won't be cheap..

@Magess Right? It very confidently spews out false information sometimes.

@heigre As @Magess mentioned, I think a HUGE hurdle is going to be curating the results, or somehow ensuring the results aren't fake!

@Magess @killyourfm at least the bing implementation can/will cite its sources according to the article. 🤷♂️

@bashfulrobot @Magess I saw a Twitter thread where an Edge user was just having a conversation about the implementation, and didn't see any links. Here's to hoping.

@bashfulrobot @killyourfm @Magess Well, I can guess. A search engine, even a chatty one, that doesn't support following things up will be useless and so unused.

@kbkorb @bashfulrobot @Magess it’s using GPT 3.5 and will use GPT 4.0 so it definitely will have persistence and remember prior questions / dialogue.

@killyourfm @bashfulrobot @Magess OK. That's a step closer to a personal assistant. Not my point though. It has to provide prioritized follow-up links for research without its specific help. Unless it's actually an AGI, which it isn't.

@Magess @killyourfm Me too. In some respects, its lying is overblown. I know how to fact check, even if ChatGPT doesn't. But if that propensity is injected into a search engine, lots of people will be misled. QAnon boom times!OTOH the whole point is a live connection to Internet resources, so fact checking becomes possible for the search engine itself. Automated fact checking may not be as good as human for a long while, however.

@kbkorb @Magess So is the assumption that this version within Bing will have a training model newer than 2021? Will it have real-time access?

@killyourfm @Magess It's an internet search engine, isn't it? I think it has to.

@killyourfm @Magess I recently tried it for some project suggestions and it gave me a nonexistent protocol and completely made up github repositories.

@killyourfm @Magess yeah, it didn't help asking for implementations, I bet the URLs you get when citing sources will also be BS...(This was the encounter I mentioned: https://mastodon.social/@peturdainn/109789054176310672 )
