It was nice to meet people at #FOSDEM, but I am sad that woman and covid got ignored. All keynote speakers were male. Almost nobody was wearing a mask. Using open source doesn't make you morally superior so you can ignore all other social issues.

Fun Fact btw: I was asking the FOSDEM team in advance what the COVID policy is and they gave me this: https://fosdem.org/2023/practical/covid/I said this is the bare minimum and I got the reply that its not, because there will be free masks. Ventilation was encouraged, but barely used, if even possible. FFP2 masks where not places prominently and while the official beer event was cancelled, it took place anyway.

I mean I totally get it, COVID isn't _that_ problematic anymore. Its super super excluding for anyone who has health issues to basically DO NOTHING! I am not asking to check the vaccination situation of everyone. I am not asking everyone to do daily tests. But wearing a mask and do a self test before going there isn't too much to ask for the majority.

Turns out unless the masks are "perfectly fitted" and replaced every 2-4 hours, and you don't touch them with your fingers the entire time you're wearing them, they are more likely to cause infection, not less. Then, even if you do all those things, they offer no real benefit to prevent transmission in an everyday setting.
