I’ve just finished rereading The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring. It was good to be back to Middle-Earth. Again. I believe my favorite place ever is Lothlórien, since the first time I read this book several decades ago. Any Tolkien fans here?#tolkien #jrrtolkien #lotr #thelordoftherings #thefellowshipofthering @bookstodon

@factolvictor @bookstodon Yooo. I’ve been reading through the Tolkien #legendarium and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Right now I’m on first read through of The Unfinished tales and am rereading the Children of Hurin. I’ve borrowed a reading list from the “Nerd of the rings” (reproduced here): Narrative Books:[ ] The Hobbit[ ] The Lord of the Rings[ ] The Children of Húrin[ ] The Silmarillion Slightly academic approach:[ ] Unfinished Tales[ ] Beren and Lúthien [ ] The Fall of Gondolin [ ] The Fall of Numenor Heavy academic approach:[ ] The History of Middle-earth [ ] The Nature of Middle-earth [ ] The Letters of JRR Tolkien [ ] The History of The Hobbit Biographical Books:[ ] A Tolkien Biography - Humphrey Carpenter[ ] J.R.R. Tolkien: Author of the Century - Tom Shippey[ ] Tolkien and the Great War - John GarthSource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7322jvI8roI’m not tackling this in any particular order. But it’s incredible to see the depth to which these stories developed. The Silmarillion mentions some things in passing, but are truly stories in their own right. It’s almost like reading Tolkien is like staring into some kind of fractal or something: the closer you look, the more detail there is.

@factolvictor @bookstodon I've always been partial to Rivendell, myself. That beautiful Alan Lee painting, which was so masterfully translated to screen in the Jackson trilogy, just says so much;the Homely House on the left, warm, welcoming, a curl of smoke from the chimney. the untamed wild on the right, adventurous, lush, craggy, unknown. And between them, the waterfall, powerful, indomitable, unending, protective...with a daring bridge connecting hearth and unknown.#lotr #rivendell

@ilinamorato @factolvictor @bookstodon In my mind, ME is JRR and Christopher Tolkien, and Alan Lee. AL has put almost as many images in my mind as the Tolkiens have.

@factolvictor @bookstodon Hi there! I'm so glad you came back to Middle Earth. Gosh I haven't read the trilogy in so many years. I should perhaps revisit it myself. For the time being I'm totally immersed in The Fall of Númenor. And after that I guess it's Silmarillion's turn for the millionth time! 😂

@factolvictor @bookstodon Oh it's magnificent! It's just great to have a single resource for the entire history of Númenor. It's so comprehensive and well researched plus Alan Lee's illustrations are simply gorgeous. It's definitely a must! ♥️

@pgv @bookstodon @ilinamorato I totally agree. After so many years and while reading UT and HoME it’s quite clear how Christopher was pivotal to Middle-Earth.

@factolvictor @bookstodon We are re-watching the movies, after which the books come out for a deeper dive.
