@cracky lol, but in all fairness i think most of them have good faith mental constructs of consent and when it truly occurs or the morally relative goodness that AoC laws do or whatever, they are just wrong.

@salty when i was more into marxism i was very exposed to arguments regarding what said person had historically said on such and such thing, both in the sense of "this is scripture" (though they didn't put it that way always) and in the sense of "this is disgusting". this happened to figures i liked and figures i disliked and figures i was ambivalent about. the space is rife with itone of the people i saw this about was lenin on sex workers. someone, who knows who, repeated a claim that lenin ordered a massace of sex workers at some point during the civil war, and hated sex workers. i am not a fan of lenin, both as an intellectual or as a political figure or in any way, but at that time i wanted to be fair, so i did my rigorous searching - this claim is sourced from a collection of letters by lenin. the conclusion i came to was that lenin was using the term "prostitutes" as an insult to refer to political opponents, and not *literally* ordering sex workers to be massacred, though i've no doubt that he didn't have the best thoughts on them. this took me time to look up, track down sources, double check, see discussion, etc etctoday if i hear something like that my answer is, if it's true it sucks, if it's not true good and i don't caresometimes it's fine to skip the rigorous search unless you have a specific interest in the topic if you're operating on a series of principles which sidestep the issue

@salty ultimately you answer of, "this is good actually", is a good answer - it might be worth looking more into it, but that's a function of whether you're honestly interested in knowing more about the topic and talking about it, and not about investigating truth or putting the past on the stand
