Did you know you can freeze whole lemons!I love doing this because they're much cheaper per lemon when you buy a bag of them than when you buy just one or two. I let them sit out to thaw, and I use the juice as I normally would. Or I slice them up and put them on fish to bake.Better yet, lemons are far easier to zest when they're frozen.#MyBestCookingTip #cooking #lemons

@grammargirl Oooooh! I just discovered that if you wrap each lemon (or lime or orange) in plastic wrap and keep in the fridge, they stay good for a month or more. Will be adding the freezer method to this as well now. Thanks for tooting this!

@grammargirl When I peel or juice a lemon (or any citrus), I wash it first, dry the peel, and then throw it in a sealed container in the freezer. It's handy to have for zesting later or for cutting in thin strips to throw in dishes.

@grammargirl This is new and valuable information. Trader Joe's often has big bags of limes (and lemons too, I think), which I assume are cheaper than the individual ones. And I often find myself short of a lemon or lime when cooking.

@grammargirl good to know especially as I plan on ordering citrus fruit trees soon, with said plants mostly fruiting in late summer, fall & early winter - with fruit juices wanted most in for summertime use. This should work on preserving them until I at least can do that further processing. #Farming #Food

@grammargirl We keep a crock pot running, lidless, in the winter to supplement humidifiers elsewhere in our apartment.A bag of lemons in the freezer has meant a steady supply of citrus to dice into the pot when topping it up—allowing the same device to double as an air freshener.
