#introductionHi folks! I have a history of depression, but I am in a good state of mind currently and I am very #grateful for that π The Quote posts I do about #mentalhealth, #depression and other difficult feelings, I do to hopefully create awareness what mental illness actually feels like. And also, I hope to reach persons that are currently struggling, and hope they find some comfort in the posts, knowing that they are not alone in having these difficult feelings.

@Krisss Can I ask how you were able to over come your long period of depression? I was writing a lot about anxiety/depression until I was hit with depression I've never experienced before- as in long term... I used to think 4 wks was a long time to experience it but always hopeful & maybe took for granted it would lift.

@MiaLis79 Sure you can ask! But its a difficult questions to answer. My longest (and also last) streak of depression lasted 2 years. Beginning of 2020 to beginning of 2022. I think medication made it somehow a bit bearable. But my world remained grey and I felt like a shadow of my old self. I dont know what specifically made it go away. It feels like it just did... Out of the blue. I slowly started to see colour again, and felt inspired again to do things.. 1/2

@MiaLis79 But I still lacked a lot of mental energy. But I was then diagnosed with ADD and got prescribed methylfenidate. And that medicin really turned things around for me. I would have energy again to pick up volunteering work. So at the end of the day I would feel fulfilled. Also my ability to concentrate and focus improved. So I could enjoy watching a series and reading a book again. So it went in an upward spiral from there on.. 2/2

@Krisss I'm happy that things have taken a turn for the best for you! I was put on Ritalin ( methylfenidate) years ago and I thought it helped. But, tried it again a few yrs ago & didn't notice a difference- possibly more anxiety. I think I need to keep in mind I also suffer from SAD, and this too shall pass! Thanks for sharing your personal story, I do appreciate it.

@MiaLis79 what do the letters SAD stand for? I take it it is some form of depression? It is so important to keep on telling yourself that this too shall pass. Its what I kept on telling myself too. πΊπΊ

@Krisss I very much appreciate your willingness to speak about mental illness, which affects so many while there are so few resources, advocates--basic understanding. Glad you are in a good space.

@theleavingyear Thank you. For me my mental illness has never been something I have felt ashamed of. I have always been very open about it. I wish the same for others who are still suffering. To know that they are not alone. We need to keep speaking about is to release it from its stigma..

@JohnLoader6 I am actually bipolar so I will always be vulnerable for depression. I am just grateful for every day that I am not feeling depressed but happy instead. I have not been depressed for over a year now. So that gives me hope! πΊπΊ

@Krisss I'm not bipolar but when it gets bad hypnotherapy works for me (still on low dose drugs). Finding a good therapist is a challenge though

@JohnLoader6 Tell me about it. I have had so many therepists that have not helped me at all. They wouldnt look at me as a person but just performed their tricks as learned at uni. My talks with a social worker and my job coach have been much more helpful

@Krisss best hypnotherapists have several qualifications, registered with a professional body and not young. The first I had was a consultant to the British Dental Association. He used to work on dentists who were afraid of going to the dentist
