@anneeroper @auschwitzmuseum I'd just like to point out that if it weren't for democracy, hitler would have remained an angry shitty painter, and my grand parents would have been a lot better off.The moment we accept that there is an exception to the golden rule, that is to say, don't hurt people and don't take their stuff, we invite evil into our lives. Democracy makes that evil palatable.

@elliswyatt Not sure about the hitler comparison re: democracy--it was the politicians clinging to power than enabled, not the concept. Like in the USA at the moment with #GOPs #MAGA #Trump cronies and opportunists. Bad guys generally work an angle, like the ones who use bible-thumping to be unkind and try for handmaid's tales...

Greedy, self-aggrandising politicians like #GOP #MAGA corrupt democracy the same as greedy, self-aggrandising people corrupt communities, marriages, friendships, sports, equalities tra la tra la. It's not the political or political ideas but the corruption of practices at fault. And the disillusionment that follows and corrodes.

The current president not only was vp to the deporter in chief who dropped a bomb every 20 mins for 8 years, but made cages for children, and is continuing to bomb people and the like.Politics selects for the worst of the worst because only the worst of the worst wants to rule over their neighbours which is a prerequisite for the job.The problem is peoples tribalism makes them ignore their ingroup sins and focus on the others.

@anneeroper There were no generalizations, in fact I made explicit references to wrongdoing.I mean hell, I didn't even go as far as to cover bidens crime bill that's been used for nearly 30 years to lock away tens of thousands for victimless crimes, of which POC are overrepresented.Fact is, it is the most unjust and immoral a career to decide that your values, your beliefs justify your ruling over others. And each, and every politician happily chooses to do it anyways.

@elliswyatt "They are all corrupt", "only the worst of the worst wants to rule over their neighbours" (if 'rule' means 'govern' which most elected officials espouse to do)--each appears a generalisation. Neurobiology suggests the human nervous system is designed to protect itself, hence why it developed interpretations of sensate triggers via emotions: fear, anger etc but reactivity to emotion isn't always skilful. Generalisations can be manifestations of the anger defense & unskillful too.

@anneeroper I very much mean rule. Rulers use threats of violence to compel action against an unwilling population. That is precisely what politicians do. No consent of the governed is ever gained, but they rule anyways.It is the worst of the worst, the most corrupt who seek to rule over others. It's not a generalization, it's a misunderstanding of how democracy organizes people. It doesn't do so consensually, it does so by force.

@elliswyatt Millions in US vote for candidates as their voice to make laws that compel (like prison for murder).If citizens know a candidate is corrupt, they don't have to vote for them.Of course many folks don't bother to vote which is the biggest flaw in some democracies.Or gerrymandering. If one was into angry generalisations, one might argue it's the worst of the worst NOT to vote. Hitler, Trump & corrupt representatives were voted in by citizens, not by politicians. @anneeroper Every single politician agrees that laws should be made for many other reasons other than murder. Malum prohibitum laws are the, by far, largest class of laws. All of which have no victim except for the person on which the law is forced.There is nothing justifiable with that action. And politicians, being corrupt enough to benefit from the process are more than happy to oblige.And no, the only moral position is to NOT vote. There is no vote that escapes the corrupt and immoral position of politics.

If people don't vote, by default they're voting for imposition (although US judiciary is used to fight against imposition).US seems lemming-like at the moment: shouting 'your'e not the boss of me', while dissociating with TV, video games, social media as Rome burns. Bioethecist, Dr. Nancy Berlinger has a point: "Americans don't agree about the duty to protect others whether it’s from a virus or gun violence"--one might add angry, generalising 'othering' too.

There is no "check this box to opt out", not that anyone consented to being subject the process in the fist place.In the end it comes down to a group of people, who, through threats and violence, want to consume what I produce without my consent, and compel my actions to their interest.They will do it whether or not I mark an X, and I never agreed to the process in the first place. It's wholly unjustifiable.
