From time to time I see what it’s like to follow posted speed limits on the highway and surface streets for a trip or two and it’s not easy or safe. Basically because everybody speeds a little I become the unpredictable element on the road not abiding by the social contract forcing everybody else to “react” to me.

@vees my decision after my last concussion from being rear-ended (695!) to treat speed limits as an upper bound has made me exasperating to other drivers, but it’s quite pleasant.

@vees It’s weird to drive back in the states — basically nobody speeds here, and passing on the right is considered worse offense than speeding. (This seems to hold for here, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, even France. Italy and Spain? Not so much)

@jemaleddin Being in a hydroplane collision with a guardrail a few years ago makes me act the same in the rain.

@vees Europe drives on the correct side of the road, unlike those folks on those islands to the west.
